Bun Me Baguette
Location : Robson @ Howe StreetWe actually caught this cart at the Jazz festival on the weekend and I just noticed that they raised their prices there. If you look at the picture above, you can clearly see the lemongrass chicken having a $4.25 sign next to it. On Saturday and Sunday, we paid $6. Maybe I applaud their entrepreneurial ways or maybe it's as shocking as inner city farmer's markets tripling their prices for the 'city folk'. However I feel, this is still one of the best quality sandwiches for the money.
Simplicity always works well and this cart has it down to a fine art. They offer lemongrass tofu or lemongrass chicken sandwiches. They are served with a crunchy carrot, daikon and cucumber pickle, cilantro and an 'eggy' mayonnaise, as they call it. It works perfectly. The soft but chewy chicken with a tangy, sweet sauce. The crunchy, slightly sour vegetables. The rich, creamy mayo and the herbs. I would highly recommend this cart. It is an absolute winner. Neil ate the chicken on Saturday and enjoyed it so much, he had another on Sunday, myself and a friend following suit. My only gripe was a piece of fatty gristle I encountered, but this is to be expected when you use the more flavourful chicken thigh and decide to not compromise taste and use breast.
They are located at one of the busiest walkways in the city, situated with shops, offices, schools and hotels all around. Actually they are also right opposite the art gallery, along with two or three other popular carts in a little 'cart village' with some tables and chairs spilling out onto the pedestrian street. There is also a little artisan market at the same location. They are going to make a killing this Summer, whether they charge $4.25 or $6.
